The Functional Relation between Partial Discharges and Induced Charge

چکیده

Analytical expressions are deduced for the quantitative evaluation of the charge induced on an electrode by a partial discharge (PD) within a dielectric body. Two approaches have been employed to effect this evaluation. These are characterized by the X function and the $ function, and the essential relationships to be fulfilled by X and q5 are derived. The principal difference between these functions is how t he dielectric polarization is accounted for, either implicitly ( A ) or explicitly (4). This difference is brought clearly into focus. Thereafter the application of these functions to PD studies is considered. I t is demonstrated quantitatively that perturbations in the dielectric polarization, brought about by the PD, can contribute significantly to the magnitude of the induced charge. As a consequence, the currently accepted approach to PD energy considerations should be re-examined.

Theoretical Study of the Correlation between 14N NQCC and Its Partial Atomic Charge in Amino Derivatives of Adamantane

The electronic structures and the electrostatic potential of some amino derivatives of adamantane have been studied using the density functional theory. The partial atomic charges and nuclear quadrupole coupling constants (NQCC) of 14N nucleus of the considered molecules have been reported. The partial atomic charges are calculated with two methods for 14N nucleus: Mulliken charges and natural ...

Hydrogen Adsorption on (5,0) and (3,3) Na-decorated BNNTs

The storage capacity of hydrogen on Na-decorated born nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) is investigated by using density functional theory within Quantum Espresso and Gaussian 09. The results obtained predict that a single Na atom tends to occupy above the central region of the hexagonal rings in (5,0) and (3,3) BNNT structures with a binding energy of -2.67 and -4.28 eV/Na-atom respectively. When a si...

A Theoretical Derivation of the Transients Related to Partial Discharges in Ellipsoidal Voids

Transients associated with partial discharges in ellipsoidal and spheroidal voids are derived in terms of the concept of induced charges on the electrode. The relationship between the induced charge and the properties which are usually measured are discussed. The method is illustrated by applying it to a spheroidal void in a simple disk-type GIS spacer.

Partial discharges in cylindrical cavities at variable frequency of the applied voltage

Measurements of partial discharges are commonly used to diagnose the insulation system in high voltage components. Traditionally a single fixed frequency of the applied voltage is used for such measurements as in the Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis (PRPDA) technique. With the Variable Frequency Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis (VF-PRPDA) technique the frequency of the applied...
